Where is it you need to be?

Do you need Faith?  This week go to your worship service.

Do you need a good sweat?  Go to your gym or join one.

Is it solace you need?  Go for a hike in the woods minus the IPOD and cell phone.  Just you and your thoughts.

Go where you need to be.

Not where people tell you to go.  Not a place that is negative.  Nor a place you leave frustrated and unhappy.

Go to that place of excitement, joy and happiness.

Don’t go by intimidation or guilt.

Go where your heart is telling you to go.  For each one of us needing comfort and love, it is a different place.

Walk in the woods.  Laughter with friends.  Passion with our soul mate.  Joy with our children.  Deep conversation with God.

Go where your soul aches to go.  Only you know that place.  Give yourself permission to go there.  Wherever it is.  Just go.

Friends, wonderful friends!  They uplift, console, and understand you.  They add joy to your life and give you confidence to take the risk of making your dreams come true.  They offer a softer place to land when life throws you unexpected curve balls.  When you leave the company of such friends you feel full and content.  Your soul has been nourished, even if it was just a quick hour and a hot cup of coffee.  My day was once made lighter and more joyful after an unexpected hug from a friend in the parking lot of my daughter’s daycare.  It was one of those warm embraces that said “I am here with you at all times, keep going.”

Who shines their light on your life?  Who do you call when you have exciting news to share?  Who are your most cherished friends?

My favorite inspirational speaker Dr. Wayne Dyer says,” Choose to be in close proximity to people who are empowering, who appeal to your sense of connection to intention, who see the greatness in you, who feel connected to God, and who live a life that gives evidence that spirit has found celebration through them.”

Go out and LAUGH

Sit together and TELL STORIES

Eat dinner and SUPPORT EACH OTHER

Sip tea and CRY (let it all out, you are in good company)

Go for a walk and DREAM BIG

Talk on the phone and GET INSPIRED

Hug for an hour and BE HELD

Share your accomplishments and SHARE THE JOY

It’s all in the company you keep.

If you drew a big circle on a piece of paper and I asked you to divide it up like a pie, each slice representing how you spend your time, would there be  nice big chunks of pie devoted to REST, RELAXATION, REFLECTION, RECREATION????  When I do this exercise with people the majority have way too much time devoted to work, chores and responsibilities and not enough time devoted to the four R’s( as said in the book The Inner Game of Stress by T. Gallwey).  Where is your balance?  We all maintain a certain amount of work, chores and responsibilities but it all must be balanced with time devoted to the four R’s.

How happy can you truly be if all you do is work and not play?

How fulfilled can you be if you run from place to place with no time for rest and relaxation?

How nourished can you be if you have spent no time in reflection of where you have been and where you hope to be?

We are happier, more satisfied and LESS STRESSED if we can take the time to rest, relax, reflect and PLAY.

When do you find yourself doing exactly what you want to be doing and never wanting it to end?  When does time stop for you?

Find more of that time for yourself; happiness and joy will follow.

Registration has begun for my Woman’s Day of Inspiration and Joy on October 2nd at the Peabody Marriott.  Please find the details on my website www.thejoysource.com , last year it was a huge success, join us for another amazing day!

“Hardiness gives you the COURAGE AND MOTIVATION to do the hard work of

 GROWING AND DEVELOPING

 rather than

 DENYING and AVOIDING”

(S. Maddi-Psychology Today)

What makes us hardy?  Life.  How we engage in life.   Challenging ourselves.  Taking risks.  Learning new ways to deal with stress.  Getting back up after life kicks us down.  Facing your fears.  Participating in your life, good or bad, instead of just showing up.

Courage + Motivation= Growing and Developing

Get up of the couch, shut OFF the bad reality television that broadcasts negativity, put the pint of ice cream away and go out for a walk.  Start reading a new book.  Learn a new skill.  Seek out a quiet spot in nature.  Challenge yourself today, tomorrow and the next day.  What have you been meaning to do but haven’t found the time? It’s time to grow and develop.  This is a constant process for us, your age doesn’t matter; strive to be better than you used to be.  More hardy.  More joy.

You have to work at being resilient.  Hardy people have higher levels of committment to themselves, their faith, their work and their families.  They believe they control their destiny; they don’t fall victim to what is going on externally around them.  “Hardy people see the changes in life as challenges to master, not obstacles to overcome.” (Stress management; B. Brehm)

I encourage you to keep growing, take risks, seek out quality friendships, face your fears. Be better than you used to be.

Denying and Avoiding will get you nowhere fast  (and annoy everyone around you).  Hardiness is a quality that will serve you well in life.  How hardy are you?

Choices.  Happy or sad.  Good or bad.  Go out or stay in. Ride your bike or go for a run.  ChoicesLet life pass you by or be called to action.  Watch your friends enjoy their lives or be compelled to enjoy yours as well.  See those around you take risks and grow or step out of your comfort zone and reap your own rewards.   Sit by idly and passion-less or read some inspiring books and begin your soul-searching.  ChoicesWatch your friends discover love or be in search of your soul-mate and experience it for yourself.  Observe others create and live their lives exactly how they want or go in pursuit of your lost dreams and create your own life.  Sit in the backseat and be still or move forward and make it your time.  It’s your choice.

Standing by on the sidelines without being fully engaged in the game can leave you feeling bored and resentful.  Stir up the passion.  Fully participate in your life.  Ignite your fire from the inside.  Tap into your strengths, we all have them; what are yours?

Oriah states in her book The Invitation: “I don’t want to know how old you are.  Your age tells me how long you have lasted, but not what you have made of the precious time you have been given.  Lasting, enduring, is not enough.  Tell me of the times you have taken a risk, and how you greet your fear.”

Choices.  Give up or keep going.  Overwhelmed by an obstacle in your path or plow right through it.  Cry and retreat, or cry and try again.  Choices.  By not making a choice you’re still making a choice.  It just might not be the right one.

Dream.  Create.  Joy. Passion.  Happiness.  Love.  Experience all of these.  The choice is yours.  Make the right one.
